Flu Clinic

Flu vaccinations are coming to your child’s school on October 25, 2022.  They will be given at NO CHARGE TO YOU.  Now, more than ever, it is important to protect your family through vaccinations!  If you would like your child to be vaccinated, you must register BEFORE Friday, October 20.  Fill out the consent form online here.

Unity Day

Folly Quarter Middle School is excited to join other HCPSS schools, students, and staff in celebrating UNITY day on Wednesday, October 19th.  To support Bullying Prevention Month, we invite everyone to wear orange to show we are united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.  Please see the Unity Day 2022 Flier for additional information.  
 

From the FQMS Gifted & Talented Department

The road to the Scripps National Spelling Bee starts here!  Sign up to be a part of this year’s Folly Quarter Level Scripps National Spelling BEE will take place Wednesday, January 11th at 7:40 a.m.  Our school champion will then compete at the Howard County Level Spelling BEE taking place at Reservoir High School on Saturday, March 18, 2023, 2:00 p.m.  Students must be logged into their HCPSS Google Suite account on the same browser when using this registration link.

G/T Program Virtual Information Nights Secondary:

Thursday, October 27, 7-8 pm. HCPSS families interested in the Gifted and Talented (GT) Program are invited to virtual information nights to learn more about the advanced-level offerings available and how their students can become involved. Registration is required.

Leadership and Volunteer Opportunity

The Howard County Association of Student Councils (HCASC) welcomes ALL middle and high school students to monthly student lead meetings. 
  • When: Wednesday October 19, 7:00pm-8:30pm
  • Where: Centennial High School Cafeteria
  • Who:  ALL Middle and High School Students Welcome from throughout HCPSS
  • Virtual Option:  Google Meet Code: HCASC-GA Students must use HCPSS emails to join the meeting online

HCASC meetings provide students the opportunity to

  • Grow and practice the habits of heart and mind it takes to serve as engaged and informed citizens
  • Collaborate with student and community leaders from across HCPSS
  • Discuss current events impacting HCPSS students
  • Share knowledge based, actionable feedback and ideas directly with the Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB) and other HCPSS leaders
  • Pair students with actionable steps they can take to achieve their goals, such as:
  • Collaborate with their school-based administrators
  • Provide testimony to elected officials
  • Connect to HCPSS staff,  community organizations, or an elected official, 
  • Join one of our committees where they can work to bring their ideas to life in Howard County

HCPSS Bus Transportation Reminders

Students must ride their assigned buses and exit buses at designated bus stops. Our bus drivers take the safety of students very seriously and want to fulfill this important responsibility. Please contact the Folly Quarter front office if there is an extenuating circumstance regarding your child getting off at a different stop.

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES

Absences - Absence notes must be received in writing (email or note) from a parent/guardian within 5 days of an absence.  Please send all attendance correspondence to: FQMSabsence@hcpss.org.

Late Arrivals - Students must be in first period by 7:40 am. Please make sure your child is accompanied into the building by either an adult or a note explaining the reason for the late arrival.

Early Dismissal - If you have to take your child out of school early, please email FQMSabsence@hcpss.org, send your child in with a note for the front office, or call in advance. You MUST present your driver’s license when you arrive.  A work ID is not valid.
