Congratulations to the following students who have been selected as student delegates for the Howard County Association of Student Councils (HCASC) and who will represent FQMS at the upcoming Student Member of the Board Convention: Mark Li (8), Ivie Oriafio (7), and Lev Rasputnis (6).
As student delegates, some of the roles and responsibilities include: serve as a representative of our school, understand the opinions & views of their classmates, understand and promote the role of the Student Member of the Board, participate in HCASC delegate training sessions, share Convention experience and continue active participation in the SMOB election process.
Congratulations to the following 8th Grade students who advanced to the Howard County History Day Competition at Long Reach High School on March 4: Scott Bepple, Gavin Bergstrom, Gideon Elliott, Ema Chapin, Tatiana Spooner, Zoya Bahrain, Zaria Haroon, Zoha Qamar, Anayah Hassan, Ananya Konnuru, Yashica Papineni, Safia Puthawala, and Bruce Tan.
A special congratulations to Scott Bepple and Gavin Bergstrom for their award winning documentary, "The Marshall Act".
Congratulations to our Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble students as well as our Concert Strings and Symphony String students for fantastic performances in their recent Howard County music assessments. Our Chorus and Concert Chorus students will be performing their Howard County assessments in late March.
Parents/Guardians, below is a schedule of upcoming spring testing dates. To avoid disruptions on testing dates, please help to ensure your student arrives to school on time and please minimize early dismissals during these dates.
We are moving quite quickly through 3rd quarter and many students have depleted their personal school supplies (pencils, glue sticks, etc.). Please have your students check their backpacks and refresh their school supplies as needed.
If you are able to donate tissues to FQMS, please bring your donation to the Front Office!
Thank you!
If your student is missing any belongings, please have them check the Lost and Found table located outside of the cafeteria. Many coats, jackets, lunch boxes, etc. have been collected over the past weeks.
Changes are coming to Medicaid: During the COVID-19 public health emergency, Marylanders who were enrolled in Medicaid continued to be covered, even if they were no longer eligible. Medicaid renewals will not be automatic this year!
Starting in April 2023, Maryland will begin making Medicaid eligibility reviews again. Not everyone will be up for renewal at the same time. These renewals will take place over 12 months. It is very important that you make sure your contact information is up to date so that you can receive and respond to important messages about your health insurance. Learn more, see Medicaid Check-In 2023 - Participant Information. *Please call the MD Health Dept. Insurance Line at 410-313-5845 to check your status. They will set up an appointment for you if needed.
Parents/Guardians, we always appreciate communication about your child's health conditions and illnesses. Please ensure that you're directing any questions, concerns, or notification of illness to our school nurse, Laura Smith, 410-313-1510, or email laura_smith1@hcpss and not only your student's teacher. Our nurse is the gatekeeper for health and illness protocol and will be able to help you navigate your specific situation. Thank you!
Please remind students to bring in their overdue books from home. Some have been checked out since September/October and other students would like to read those books, too! Thank you.
A friendly reminder to ensure your student is bringing their charged Chromebook to school every day. Starting in the new year, if a student forgets to bring their Chromebook to school, they will no longer receive a loaner. Instead, they will use a desktop in the media center when they have a digital assignment. HCPSS has changed the process for receiving replacement Chromebooks and the FQMS loaner inventory is often low. We need to prioritize loaners for those students with broken devices awaiting repair.
Thank you, Mrs. Taylor

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) now allows local school systems to repurpose inclement weather days as asynchronous school days. At the discretion of the superintendent, HCPSS will use up to three inclement weather asynchronous days during the 2022-2023 school year. For more information and resources for secondary students, please visit Resources and Instruction for secondary students and HCPSS Inclement Weather Asynchronous Instruction Plan.
