NEWS FROM FQMS

Happy Friday, Falcons!

We are just fifteen school days away from Spring Break.  With spring fever on everyone’s minds, our students continue to impress us with their excitement and love for learning.  We have seen our students thriving in the classroom, extracurriculars, and with each other.  We want to thank our 8th graders for especially staying focused this week, as they all took the MISA assessment.

Celebrations:

The Varsity and JV Boys Basketball teams made our community proud with their hard work this week.

A huge congratulations to the Folly Quarter JV Boys Basketball team for being crowned the 2022 COUNTY CHAMPIONS! Following a 6-1 regular season record against other Howard County teams, the Folly Quarter team  entered the playoffs as the #2 seed. They proceeded to win their quarterfinal game against Lime Kiln, followed by a 10-point victory over Hammond in the semifinals.

The championship game on Tuesday evening pitted Folly Quarter against the #1 seed, Wilde Lake, who came into the final game with no losses all season.  Using an up-tempo style on offense and a smothering defense, Folly Quarter started the game strong, leading 30-20 at the half. The Wilde Lake team  tried to make up lost ground in the 2nd half, but fouls piled up and Folly Quarter balanced attack and game MVP Dave M. couldn’t be stopped. At the final whistle, Folly Quarter took the victory and the County Championship, 55-30! In winning the County title, Folly Quarter is now invited to a State tournament this weekend, facing the best teams from Frederick, Washington and Montgomery Counties. Congratulations!

A HUGE "Thank You" to the wonderful FQMS PTSA for the delicious and super fun Green Treats this week! They were very much enjoyed by one and all!

Damaged Chromebooks - If a student has a damaged Chromebook, please have them bring the device to Mrs. Taylor in the media center.  A repair request will be entered for the Chromebook.  If the technology office finds the device has been damaged by the student and the family has a financial obligation, they will be notified by HCPSS. Most families will receive two emails. One will come from hcpss_notifications@hcpss.org alerting the family about the financial obligation.  The second email will be an invoice sent from the My School Bucks website. Students will not be issued a replacement Chromebook until the invoice is paid.

Parents who have questions regarding the technical assessment are directed to contact DeviceDeployment@hcpss.org and if they have questions regarding the invoice, they can contact finance@hcpss.org.  FQMS does not play a part in making decisions on these financial obligations or collecting payment.
