Thank You, FQMS Community!
Thank you so much for your generous donations of food and treats for Staff Appreciation Month!
Because of your kindness, we were able to create a wonderful spread that truly brightened our staff’s day. The smiles on their faces said it all—your support and thoughtfulness made them feel valued and celebrated. We are so grateful to be part of such a caring and generous school community. Thank you for helping us show how much we appreciate our amazing staff!
With heartfelt thanks,
FQMS PTSA
URGENT!
The biggest issue that needs to be addressed by Howard County parents is the budget, as discussed at the recent PTACHC meeting.
We need to try to get as many people as possible to send e-mails to the County Council asking them to restore at least the $29.2 million just to maintain current services! Without this minimum amount of money added to the HCPSS budget by the county council, there will be class size increases, loss of staff (over 200 positions) including Middle School and Elementary School Para-educators, high school teachers secretaries, High School and ARL media specialist, and Elementary School GT Teachers (40 positions)! In addition, 3rd grade strings could be eliminated and dual enrollment could be cut. We need to have these letters sent by 5/15 - a week from today! Please write your own letters, and post the request on your own social media. I know we all care about HCPSS, but we need neighbors, relatives, and other community members to reach out to the county council and express that the school system is important to all of our Howard County citizens.
Here is the sample letter provided by PTACHC. Feel free to cut and paste, edit, or write your own letter:

Dear Howard County Council,
I'm writing as a concerned [parent/teacher/resident] to urge you to fully fund the Howard County Public School System in the FY26 Operating Budget.
HCPSS has faced years of underfunding. This year, the system needs at least $29.2 million just to maintain current services. Without it, we'll see larger classs sizes, fewer program, and staff layoffs - all of which hurt our students.
It is unacceptable that our schools are the first to face cuts when budgets tighten. Education is a core service and should be protected, not sacrificed. The percentage of the Howard County Public School System's share of the recurring General Fund Revenue has not kept of with historic norms and inflations.
[Insert personal note here, e.g., "My child's school is already stretched thin. We cannot afford more cuts."]
Please prioritize students and restore funding to HCPSS.
Thank you-
