NEWS FROM FQMS

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Happy Friday to Our Falcon Family!

End of Quarter 1 - As a reminder, the end of Quarter 1 is November 6th.

Over the last few weeks teachers, administration and counselors have been in touch with lots of students and families about missing work. If your student is still having difficulty, needs more help etc- I am offering support sessions next Monday and Thursday from 12-1 the login is MCCheckIn. Students can drop in to get extra help with assignments, submission etc. This does NOT take the place of attending the teacher support sessions, but is an additional opportunity to get help!

Next week’s schedule is as follows:

Monday -  Normal virtual school schedule
Tuesday- Schools/Offices closed (state mandated holiday)
Wednesday - Asynchronous Work Day
Thursday - Normal virtual school schedule
Friday -  ½ day for students

Academic Life Skills Program - We are very proud of our FQMS planning team and excited to share that our Academic Life Skills Program students will be returning to Folly Quarter for small group Face to Face instruction beginning November 9th.  We are very grateful to Ms. Kay, Ms. Visco, Mr. Stein, Ms. Patton, Ms. Fritsch, Ms. Hewitt, Ms. Smith and Ms. McNeil for all of the hard work and planning that has gone into the start of this program.  Families specifically involved in this program have been contacted via phone, email and mail!

SEL Lessons - We wanted to ensure there was clarity and information about SEL Lessons and topics over the last few weeks and upcoming weeks. To ensure you have all information we will be sharing our weekly and monthly lesson topics and objectives with you! Please note that HCPSS has lessons created that teachers can pull from but we also have an FQMS team that creates lessons that align with our PBIS focus each month that we share for all teacher use. The October focus was on celebrating something about yourself and being a welcoming and inclusive peer in the virtual setting. For example, some of our student leaders used what they learned and planned a virtual lunch bunch for our special needs program students that was specific to encouraging communication and making sure those students are having regular interaction with peers in the virtual setting.

November’s Objective is Focused on Kindness and Gratitude to Self and Others
The objective is:  Students will engage in activities and discussion in order to incorporate kindness and gratitude for self and others into daily interactions. We will focus on self kindness and self care, as well as random acts of kindness and showing gratitude to those in your family, school, community, etc.

On 11/2 we will also do a quarter 1 reflection, virtual learning best practices review, and personal goal setting activities for quarter 2. Students will also take a survey that gives us information about what virtual tools they feel work best for them, what strategies help them stay most engaged and how we can best support them for Quarter 2.

If you have questions about SEL lessons at any time, please reach out to me directly and I will gladly share the lessons with you!

Have a wonderful weekend,
Megan Chrobak
